Where does the story of Brumic begin? Do we want to go back to when Lee and Duncan met skateboarding in the mid 80’s or their years together in bands like Endpoint and Step Down (who later became Guilt)? The seeds of Brumic were established when Duncan asked Lee to play a few Step Down songs at the Guilt reunion show. Everyone had so much fun, there was talk of starting a band that that played music akin to the first Guilt seven inch. However, they all lived in different cities. They decided to record songs in their home studios and send files back and forth. Lee started writing songs for the project, but the other folks in Guilt were not able to participate. At first Lee and Duncan kind of abandoned the idea, but further conversations online persuaded them to give it another shot. When thinking of a drummer, Duncan recommended our their old touring friend Erik Larson from Avail (who Endpoint toured with and played with countless times).
When the tracks came back from Erik, they knew they had something special, but they needed more people. Duncan tapped his old bandmate Brian Roundtree (Tree) from By The Grace of God to play bass, and his old Denver friend Chuck French from Planes Mistaken for Stars.
There is not a specific Brumic sound. There is some Metal, some Punk, and some Hardcore on their first EP. What rings true in all the songs are the spirit of a bygone era of Hardcore, angry, political, but full of melody.
